Pegasus bay

The Donaldson family have been immersed in the wine industry since the early 1970s and were pioneers of local grape growing and winemaking. Associate professor and consultant neurologist, Ivan Donaldson, first became interested in wine when his girlfriend at the time, Christine, gave him a book simply called – ‘wine’.

The first vineyard was a hobby with Ivan making wine in the garage at home on the weekends, by the mid1980s Ivan and Chris had decided there was definitely a future for winemaking in canterbury. They went on to plant Pegasus Bay with the help of their four sons, who have all ended up working in key roles within the business. Pegasus Bay is proud to be entirely family-owned.

Making wines true to our sites and inviting guests to enjoy them on our vineyards could never happen without our team. We’re surrounded by enthusiastic and talented people who appreciate our land, vines and wines. We’re learning from each other every day and grateful for what everyone brings to our vineyards and spaces.

Torlesse Wines

Torlesse Wines

Our winery first started its life as a farm woolshed. In 1987 it was converted into a winery for Glenmark wines and Torlesse wines moved to Waipara in 1991 and still share the production facilities.

The Torlesse cellar door was built and opened in March 2000 but Torlesse has produced wines from 1991 onwards making it one of the older wineries in Waipara. Most grapes are hand-harvested and all are batch-processed keeping different vineyard components separate for assessment until final blending.

The winemaking and cellar door team led by Kym and Maggie Rayner have been cultivating and producing excellent wine for over 30 years. They bring a passion and curiosity which drives the Torlesse brand and grows the quality and diversity of products.

Georges Road Wines

Georges Road is our vision of a single vineyard Waipara terroir. It is a constantly evolving labour of love, dedication, and craft. Discover what makes us a hidden gem amongst NZ wines.

We believe in winemaking with a natural touch, a guiding hand in the cellar, to be as hands off as possible. The best wines come from the best fruit, so the vineyard is vital. In the winery, balance is the key, the interplay between sweetness, acidity, oak and tannin, fruit and palate weight. We want our wines to be delicate, elegant, food friendly and, above all, enjoyable.
